Marisol La Brava & A Flor de Piel is a Chicago-based family trio specializing in producing heartfelt songs, their latest song “La Bamba” is a song that perfectly explores different musical genres in a single song, beginning with soft and sensual electronic sounds combined with traditional folk instrumentation.
This new single “La Bamba”, is a musical collaboration with Mexico City-based producer Iván Rosa, who also sings backup vocals in the track. The release continues the band’s history of taking the time to acknowledge and embrace their culture and heritage in their music.
Their version of “La Bamba” is a hybrid of folk and electronica, ancient rhythms fused with modern beats.
“The original version is more than 300 years old and was used by runaway slaves from the Veracruz state in Mexico to guide captive slaves find their way to freedom. The line “ay arriba y arriba” instructed slaves to climb the mountains in order to find freedom. Today this line, which means “up and up” inspires us to reach higher and higher towards our dreams and goals. – Marisol La Brava & A Flor de Piel
Together, they reworked a song that served as a roadmap for freedom and escape during recording with producer Iván Rosa into an anthem of empowerment that embraces both genre and instruments. A unique, stirring sound is created when classical flutes and strings are combined with soft, seductive electronica.
