Barry Muir’s Latest album “Bakersfield” Is A Masterpiece

Barry Muir’s newest album entitled “Bakersfield” is another thing altogether. This is more than just a bunch of songs together; this music sets the mood. Such sound takes you back to this old world that goes with the classic rock music. This makes you feel as if you are listening to some Americana soundtrack. And this song was released on 10th April definitely; let me tell you these guys have some terrific mixing and a fusion of the old classic tunes of artists like Clapton and Mellencamp with a more modern, soulful type of music like the Eagles.

However, the kind of music which you listen to by Muir is deeply a therapeutic medicine, right? The song gets deep and dark, as it tackles tough issues such as addiction, but the hope and resilience is always there, as it can be felt throughout the verses. It is said that sorrow has no language but his music has that unique optimism.

The music video for “Waiting For The Sunrise” is such a great fit for the whole mood of the track – it just totally transports viewers directly into Muir’s deeply personal, intense, reflective world. This guy is well-known in the rich music culture of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He has travels across the Canadian rock scene, and his trip was crazy! From rankings with the Payolas to being awarded Juno’s with Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts, Muir has created a legacy.

The album kicks off with the song called “Show Me the Way” – a simple and mellow arrangement which sets the mood for the combination of pop, country and folk rock styles. The production of the song is equally superb with the great sound design which leans heavily towards the warm, inviting guitars and harmonious vocals.

You’ve got to checkout Barry Muir if you want music that can not only heal whatever ails you, but that it can also bring you inspiration and take you on a journey. Let’s explore the mind that was responsible for such a great album.

What is your stage name

BARRY MUIR

Is there a story behind your stage name?
I use my real name.

Where do you find inspiration?
I listen to alot of music. In my home I have a Sonos speaker in each room so there’s no excaping. It’s basically on all the time. Lots of great new artists out there as well as the classic 70’s artists where I probably get most of my inspiration from.

What was the role of music in the early years of your life?
I started playing the guitar when I was 8. Music has played a huge role in shaping my life. Without it I’m not sure what I’d be doing now. It’s helped my in a lot of ways and I’d encourage parents to not discourage their kids from wanting to learn an instrument.

Are you from a musical or artistic family?
My dad was a teacher, professional boxer, pilot. I don’t think he really had a musical bone in his body. My mother loved listening to the same music I listened to as a kid. So, no.

Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
I think my biggest inspiration were my friends in my neighborhood that I played with as a kid. I played with kids a little older than me so I had to work really hard to match their abilities.

How did you learn to sing/write/to play?
Simply starting at a very early age. Getting together with friends and jamming. Watching other kids in bands wanting to be a part of that. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been more interested in coming up with my own musical bits and lyrics rather than copying someone else’s. I guess I’ve always felt I’ve had something to say.

What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform?
The first concert I ever went to that had a big impact on me was Supertramp in Saskatoon at the old arena. I stood right at the front of the stage in front of the bass player, Dougie Thompson and his bass just sounded so amazing. Each note hit me square in the chest and I remember being mesmerized by the spaces he left, pure magic. I just had to do that. The next day I went out and bought a bass.

How could you describe your music?
That’s always tough to answer. I guess it’s Americana with country, pop, rock and folk roots. There, how’s that?

Describe your creative process.
Basically I pick up my guitar and there always seems to be a few chords to play. Sometimes I jot down a few lines and even record a line or two into my iPhone. It sometimes helps to leave that for a bit and come back a little later to see if there’s anything I can add right away. It’s always been fun for me to come up with little bits.

Then I will play it for Joanne Stacey and Lucy LeBlanc, my two writing partners and see what they add. It really helps to have more than one mind working the song.

What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?
Probably the biggest problem I’ve encountered is I spent years touring North America. It’s hard when you have to balance that with having a family. Also, when you have a band of 4 or 5 personalities, it can get difficult to always feel positive about the direction the band is going in. It hasn’t been easy but I wouldn’t change a thing.
