At just 20 years old, Nashville singer songwriter Ainsley Costello’s new single ‘Change Your Mind’ demonstrates her already growing artistic confidence. The track effortlessly melds pop and rock together, starting with an intimate beginning and building to an anthemic chorus that feels simultaneously new and nostalgic.
Echoing guitars and driving drums give the album’s soaring vocals just the perfect backdrop, courtesy of producer Ryan Lau. You can hear touches of Paramore and The Band CAMINO in her sound but Costello creates her own unique musical identity.
It takes on the subjects of personal boundaries and self advocacy. The lyrics are pointed—’I just want to show some skin, doesn’t mean it’s for him,’ ‘Nothing’s set in stone and you can change your mind,’—and Costello sounds directly to the experiences many people the same age confront: Her delivery is the perfect balance of strength and vulnerability, with authentic emotion to every line.
It’s another strong step forward for Costello, who’s been steadily building her career since she was 16. It’s exciting too, thinking of the preview this gives to her debut album ‘EXLESS,’ an artist on the rise and finding her voice. This track is a great introduction to her beautiful blend of catchy melodies and meaningful storytelling for new listeners.
