Know More About Maya Yenn And Her Latest Release

Know-More-About-Maya-Yenn-And-Her-Latest-Release
Know-More-About-Maya-Yenn-And-Her-Latest-Release

Maya Yenn is a singer-songwriter-producer located in the United Kingdom. Her haunting first album was a huge hit, and now she’s back with a sultry new album of glitchy electropop, this time with a darker subject matter.

What follows is an exclusive interview with Maya in which she divulges all the details regarding her most recent work ‘How Much Sadness You Can Swallow?’

What is your real name?
Maya Yenn

What’s your official showbiz name?
Maya Yenn

How did you get into music?
My Mum bought this very old and rickety second-hand piano when I was a kid, and before I knew the first thing about music theory or how notes worked, I was spending hours coming up with little compositions and songs. I just loved the language music gave me to express thoughts and ideas. I think that’s what’s amazing about music, to me, it’s just emotion plus magic.

In terms of my producer journey, I started producing songs on Audacity (which is a really basic program you can download for free) when I was 15 and have slowly upgraded from there. Now I have a full home studio! Producing is another level of magic for me, I’m constantly impressed with how one small production choice can completely transform a song.

What field or genre are you into, and how would you describe it?
I listen to lots of different types of music, and people are always surprised when I say I have a real soft spot for rap, I just love how playful it can be! But I’d say the music I’ve made so far is in the alt-pop sphere. I think there are shades of R&B in there, and maybe a bit of dream pop and dark pop. My main influences definitely come from alt-pop, R&B, and indie, although there are others.

What was your first project, and the people you worked with, and which year?
My first single, “Tiptoe,” came out last year (2021) and started as a spooky beat I made for TikTok. It went semi-viral, and I ended up writing, producing, and engineering the full song myself.

I think I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, but now that I’ve done that, I’m really excited to work with other people. I started collaborating with another producer on “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” And we’ve continued to work on tracks together following that. It’s been such a great experience and has made me really excited to collaborate with other artists too.

Who or what inspires or motivates you? And why?
I find if I sit down to make a song that sounds like something specific, it won’t happen. Usually, I have a story or image in mind when I’m writing, and then I build the rest of the song from there.

I’ve written songs inspired by nightmares I’ve had and invented characters and stories. That’s why reading a lot of books, watching films, theatre, poetry, and music definitely helps with songwriting!

Do you have any role models you admire? Why with the reason(s)?
I’m a huge fan of FKA Twigs. She also came from a really rural part of the country (she’s from Gloucestershire, and I’m from Staffordshire) and moved to London to pursue her creativity.

I know this term is overused these days, but twigs are a true icon. She always has complete artistic integrity, and her vision and dedication to her creativity are staggering. She’s been through some really difficult experiences but still shows up and creates something beautiful. I’ve honestly got nothing but admiration for her! She’s just incredible.

What do you look out for in this line of business?
I really want to collaborate more with other artists. Working alongside Michelangelo on the production of “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” has been so artistically fulfilling, so it would be really exciting to get to work on more collaborative projects. I’ve done a couple of remixes for people (unreleased for now) but it was some of the most fun I think I’ve ever had in the studio!

Know-More-About-Maya-Yenn-And-Her-Latest-Release
Maya Yenn

What are some of the challenges you face in your career path?
Definitely having to be your own cheerleader. I don’t have a big team around me, which on one hand is great because I have creative control of everything I make, but it also means I need to make everything happen myself. So it takes a lot of time and energy to get all the elements of a project ready.

I work on every aspect of what I put out myself, I write and direct my own music videos, write and co-produce my own songs, curate the cover art etc. I’m very thankful when I can get help with those things, not least of all with my partner and long-time creative collaborator, James. He’s taken every photograph and shot every music video you see, and so much more behind the scenes. There is so much that just wouldn’t exist without him!

There are currently only 2% of credited producers that identify as female or non-binary and I feel that acutely as a female producer. It can be hard to be taken seriously or seen as competent as my male counterparts and I often feel the need to work even harder to prove I’m just as good and it’s pretty exhausting. I just need to remind myself I’m here because I love making music, and it’s as simple as that – forget the rest!

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I definitely owe any success I’ve had to the internet. I started putting out music during the pandemic so getting the word out on the internet was the only way I could get anyone to hear it.

I think like pretty much everything, the industry had to adapt to an online-only world during this time and a lot of that is here to stay. Honestly, I think it’s really exciting. Social media platforms like TikTok are really levelling the playing field when it comes to new artists finding their audience and that can only be a good thing.

Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?
Everyone says to just keep writing, which is definitely good advice, but it’s also really important to keep listening, watching, and absorbing. I always read poetry before I set out to write music for example. Go see films, theatre, live music, and art galleries, and read books and poetry, you’ll be surprised what inspires you!

And if you’re an anxious person like me and the thought of writing an entire song feels too daunting, just write a stream of consciousness and see what comes out. When I free-write like that I usually find about 70% of what I come up with can be developed into lyrics for a song.

What is your current project about?
My latest single, “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” was actually inspired by a nightmare I had years ago where I woke up in this old house and couldn’t remember who I was or why I was there.

I was banging on doors and windows to try and escape but nobody could hear me and I realised I was in a hellscape living the same day over and over again, my memories wiped overnight. It was completely terrifying! I had to write about it just to get it out of my system.

The music video, which premieres on YouTube on Friday 18th March, follows the story of a woman hell-bent on ending an alien invasion as she sprints through the English countryside towards a crash site where something strange has fallen to earth. Struggling to resist an onslaught of psionic weaponry as her reality is distorted and her memory is eroded, she eventually arrives at a mysterious object that has appeared on the horizon.

I’m a huge fan of sci-fi for its uncanny ability to pull our own humanity into sharp focus in this icy, delicate way like no other genre can and the music video for “How Much Sadness Can You Swallow?” is very much a love letter to sci-fi cinema. I really wanted to get the details right so even though it took some time to make and get right I really hope it’s worth the wait!

What are your hobbies?
Honestly, pretty much all my free time revolves around music, but I literally just finished baking some cookies though so there’s that! I do love illustration and used to want to be a children’s book illustrator when I was a kid. I think if I wasn’t a musician I’d be a visual artist of some kind.

What do you do aside from this profession?
I actually work in a law firm! Everyone is always surprised to hear that but it’s genuinely a really nice place to work and everyone there is incredibly supportive of my music. I’m very lucky to have that.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
Thank you so much for the support, kind messages, artwork and joy you bring to the often lonely process of recording music alone in my room! I can’t tell you how meaningful it is to get that kind of feedback and encouragement. It’s a fast-moving world so the fact that anyone is willing to take time out to listen to a song I’ve made or a music video I’ve worked on is wonderful and so appreciated.

King Paluta - Tonga (Prod. By King Paluta)

Rapper King Paluta, real name Thomas Adjei Wireko, grew up in the Kumasi neighbourhood of Atonsu Bokuro.

He was raised by a single mother, and thanks to her guidance, he has become a rap superstar.

King Paluta was signed to an unnamed record label in 2012. Before that, he had worked for a number of other companies. A lot was promised to Thomas by this label with sugar-coated lips.

It was sometime in 2004 that he released his first demo. In addition, he was unable to record any new tracks until 2008, which is over four years after he had previously been able to do so due to financial restrictions.

That is when he first came into contact with Abismall and Owuraku (Phills Bright). These two individuals first provided him with studio exposure. They offered him the opportunity to make a guest appearance on one of their songs.

But despite how serious he is, he never let his nightmares put him to sleep. The King participated in street rap battles beginning in 2007 and continuing until 2011. After knocking people down with his poetic punches over and over again, he got a lot of attention because of it. The most positive aspect of it is that he will take your supporters as well as the money that is at risk.

Pages Burner, who is now known as Amerado, Paluta Tawiah, who is now known as King Paluta, and Phaize Gh are the three artists that comprised the rap trio 3XP. King Paluta, along with two other men who were also involved in rapping, devised the name of the group.

The band broke up because of disagreements between its members, but its members went on to have successful solo careers after its short existence.

Let’s skip forward, In 2016, the two of them realized that they might be of assistance to one another, and that’s when they introduced themselves to one another.

Due to his dedication and perseverance, NKZ Music Boss Nana Yaw Maradona took notice of him (Guru). After some time, he became a member of the NKZ Music group and released his first tune after becoming a member of the label.

After a few years, for reasons having to do with his health as well as other personal reasons that cannot be discussed, he once again severed his ties with the NKZ.

He then moved on to pursue a career as an independent artist, which turned out to be the best choice he has ever made.

Nia, a British-Congolese singer and songwriter, recently released her fresh new single “Dreaming,” which is taken from her debut extended play (EP) named “My Diary.”

What is your real name?
Nichole McCulloch

What’s your official showbiz name?
Sadie Nix

How did you get into music?
I have always been into music since I was little, both writing and singing. The first band I was in when I was around 7, was with my friend, and we called it “Mixed Colors.” We used to dance and sing along to Janet Jackson and En Vouge, but funnily enough, we were never signed to a deal. However, it wasn’t until I was 33 that I picked up the guitar for the first time, and it wasn’t until a few years later that I really started to write again.

Sadie Nix Looking All Sassy On Her Debut Single “Taylor Case” (That Means You) (2)
Sadie Nix Looking All Sassy On Her Debut Single “Taylor Case” (That Means You) (2)

What field or genre are you into, and how would you describe it?
I categorize music into two categories: music that moves and music that does not. and this will be different for everyone. When someone says they don’t like, for example, “country” music, I find it so hard to believe you can write off an entire genre of music. I want music to make me dance, cry, and get excited about going out, and if it does that, then it is good music for me. The great thing is that those feelings are different for everyone, which is the exciting part of the music.

Do you have any role models you admire? Why the reason(s)?
There are so many people out there doing amazing things, but women who are writing, producing, and owning their images really inspire me. Artists like Carly Pearce, Taylor Swift, and Phoebe Bridgers.

They are putting out songs that tell stories that mean something to their fans and themselves. Then looking to the past, women like Dolly Parton, Carole King, Blondie, Pattie Smith, Annie Lenox, and Madonna are examples of women who have paved the way.

What do you look out for in this line of business?
Authenticity is it for me.

What are some of the challenges you face in your career path?
The biggest challenge is having a full-time job in addition to putting out and marketing music. Unfortunately, independent artists have a hard time generating income in this climate, so in order to be able to put out my music, it is essential, at least for now, to be working.

The other thing is that marketing has changed so much. I am terrible at social media, and things like micro-content and Instagram marketing strategies take my time away from creating music.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I think it has had both a positive and negative impact. On the upside, more people are able to put out amazing music without having to have a deal or afford studio time, and that is amazing.

But about 60,000 songs are added to Spotify every day, making the competition tougher than ever. It has also made music easier to get rid of. The focus is on singles, not albums, short songs to fit TikTok; and the journey of discovering new artists is sometimes more focused on how many social media followers you have than on the quality of the music itself.

Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?
Just do it. The biggest thing I have struggled with. I’m still struggling with trying to write a perfect song, not just a song.

If you try to write a hit every time you sit down, you will never write. Write every day, even if it is bad, doesn’t make sense, or you don’t want anyone else to hear it. Perfection is not attainable, and thank God because perfect is boring!!

What is the topic of your current project?
I think this project is a reflection on previous relationships from when I was younger, thinking retrospectively about them with a more mature lens. I won’t lie, it isn’t the happiest of records, but in many ways, it is freeing because, when you are in the middle of these life events where you feel you can’t breathe and you will never surface for air, knowing that it will be ok in the end, allows a different perspective when you are writing.

What are your hobbies?
Funnily enough, I love going to gigs and listening to new artists. I also love sports, both playing and watching!

What do you do aside from this profession?
I run my own business as my full-time job and am a happy mother to three cats.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
“It’s never too late for now.” Sorry for the bad “30 Rock” reference. In all seriousness, the message is sound. I sat on my dream of writing and performing our music for nearly 25 years because I thought I hadn’t earned the right to do it or it was too late for me.

It took a global pandemic to wake me up, which is crazy. I hope that no matter what your dreams or desires in life are, it doesn’t take another global pandemic for you to realize them. Life is far too short to not do what makes you happy.

Know More About Clifford And His Latest Release “Close To Me”

Clifford is a fantastic and brilliant singer, songwriter, and composer from Westminster, Maryland in the United States.

Clifford, a US/UK citizen residing in the United States, has educated himself to speak English, French, Arabic, and rural Maryland twangs, which he integrates into his music to give it that enticing vibe.

Clifford’s “vision” continues with the impending publication “Close to Me.” The production explores dance rhythms, softer bass, and deeper kicks than in prior tracks, combining pop and house music.

I had a heart-to-heart with him, and this is what he said about his profession.

What is your real name?
Clifford Reeves

What’s your official Stage Name (showbiz name)?
Clifford

How did you get into what you do with music?
I was in my first band by 13 where I played the drums and sang. Music and languages seem to go hand in hand so I studied French and Arabic in School. During this time I continued with my music performing at school events.

Due to my fluency languages became other people’s focus on me and I was sought after to do clandestine work. Crazy! Then I injured my Achilles heel and was laid up for 13 months. Unable to do much, I began a Twitch channel.

Other than playing games I sang covers for people. Eventually, I found all my followers tuning in to the music more than the gaming and it became clear music was my future. And here I am.

What field or genre are you into and give a brief description?
I genre blend. My music is a mix of various styles like Indie, Pop, R&B, Synth, Singer/songwriter, Commercial, House, and Classical. As each song’s story evolves I choose the genres most suited to tell that story.

Due to my language studies, cultural influences are also prevalent in my music. I write about social issues and other times I write about love. But mostly I write about whatever truths I feel I need to express.

Know More About Clifford And His Latest Release “Close To Me”

What were your first project and the people you worked with and which year?
Thus far I’ve worked alone on my music. I write, produce and perform all of it myself.

I have collaborated with a few people, including a Grammy award winner, but as it was early days in my music career when Covid began, it has been tough for me to expand beyond myself. But hopefully, that’s changing.

How many projects do you have so far?
Countless! Haha! I’m never at a loss when it comes to creative musical projects. As far as the business side I’ve got some exciting prospects brewing.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why??
What motivates me are the countless musical possibilities. Once I realized I didn’t have to stick with any one genre the sky opened up to me and I’ve never looked back. As for who, definitely my family.

Any models you look up to? [With reason(s) why]?
I grew up listening to anything from Mozart to Bowie, then from Cash to Eminem in my teens. Once I began learning languages, my music listening expanded to Fairouz, Stromae, Amr Diab, Yo-Yo Ma and so many others.

These amazing artists have created an explosion of music diversity in my head that I can’t help but include in my music arrangements. Other influences include The Temptations, Jerome Brailey, Blind Willie Johnson, Drake, Kool & The Gang, Parliament, and xxxTentacion.

What do you look out for in this business or what do you look out for in this line of business?
I just left Spotify so I guess what I’m looking out for are solid opportunities where I can be creative and enjoy sustainability as well.

Have you won an award, or been nominated for an award? Or in short, any achievement? Both in and out of your career path.
I was inducted into The Phi Beta Kappa Society (ΦΒΚ) which is the oldest academic honour society in the US.

What is your current project about?
I work on several at a time, so as far as the song after “Close to Me”…who knows haha.

What are your hobbies?
I love to cook! Particularly Italian but all types of cuisines. I treat cooking like my music, I use it as a way to challenge myself and explore.

What do you do aside from this profession?
I live on a farm that has its share of responsibilities. Aside from that, I try to stay fit through callisthenics and boxing. I love video games and I dabble in photography.

Etana Pays Homage To Nina Simone On "Young Gifted And Black"

Legends are ought to be celebrated and Nina Simone is no exception to that. As such, Etana sang this new song “Young Gifted and Black” to acknowledge her existence.

The new EP hosts a total of 7 songs which serves as a tribute to some of Nina’s biggest hits and Etana delivered awesomely on “Young Gifted and Black” as we celebrate women in this month.

Restless Modern Preaches On "Old Haunts" Off His Latest EP
Restless Modern Preaches On "Old Haunts" Off His Latest EP

Taken off his forthcoming “A Likeness Complicit” EP is “Old Haunts” as Restless Modern intends to convey self-responsibility and an uneasy desire for self.

He talks about how we as people live in a damaged world, and collective self-reflection reveals that we are all culpable in some way.

It’s quite easy to lay the fault on others, but it’s more challenging to look in the mirror and use the same criteria realistically and many things he seeks to address in this song.

Restless brings unique energy into this tune and to make it better is his confidence level and how he conveys his emotions.

Restless Modern is a 25-year-old Wisconsin-based producer, vocalist, and songwriter. Born in Denver, but reared in the Midwest near Chicago.

Restless Modern polished his abilities and built a distinct vision for his artist project over the course of a year by releasing over 30 tracks commercially.

Restless Modern’s signature is an instinctive blend of controlled anarchy, sharp lyrical wit, stunningly gorgeous sonics, and approachability that contradicts his music’s genuine and profound content.

Theo Tams Has His "Tongue Tied" To This New Single

Theo Tams, a singer and composer from Canada, recently released a new single that he calls “Tongue Tied.”

Tams and his boyfriend broke the news to their families that they were engaged, but they were not overjoyed by the news. As a result, Tams and his boyfriend’s family gave birth to this light and airy pop music with R&B overtones.

The exuberance that Theo displays in this song demonstrates that he has it all, particularly in terms of how much control he has over his voice and how much force it carries.

On his recently released extended play (EP), the Canadian singer-songwriter displays a stunning command of R&B-tinged pop music, with his silky voice serving as the unchanging beacon of light.

His composition is still at the forefront of this new pop style, but he is peeling away layers in novel ways. The listener is led through velvety landscapes by his slender voice, while the music drowns the senses with its abundance of intimate lyricism and beauty.

Theo Tams appears to have arrived at his destination in life because he is no longer ashamed to be himself in public. In the meantime, my best wishes go out to him!
